Winston House Seminars
China Rising
On Saturday, March 15, 2008, the Winston House Alumni Seminars program brings its inaugural seminar to London. China Rising will examine the impact of the rise of China on the west and include talks by Carolina faculty and academic partners at Chatham House and the Blackstone Group, as well as a visit to The First Emperor: The Terra Cotta Army exhibit at the British Museum, lunch and a reception. This is a great opportunity to mix and mingle with other alums, touch base with leading scholars, and participate in discussions about this critical interaction between China and the west.
The day long program, beginning at 9 am and concluding at 5 pm, features:
- Peter Coclanis, Associate Provost for Global Initiatives Albert R. Newsome Professor of History and Economics: "Head to Head: China, India, and the Struggle for Global Power in the 21st Century"
- Chad R. Pike, AB History '93, Senior Managing Director, The Blackstone Group, LP: “Doing Business in China and India”
- Kerry Brown, Associate Fellow, Chatham House and the Royal Institute of International Affairs on the Asia program; former First Secretary at the British Embassy in Beijing: "China in the World: The Next Two Decades"
- Jane Portal, curator of the First Emperor: The Terra Cotta Army providing a special guided tour of the exhibit at the British Museum
